My dog ate a chicken leg bone?

My pomeranian grabbed a cooked chicken leg (that's eaten but just the bone left) and ran away under the couch and I'm guessing he ate it. I lifted up the couch and tried to grab it from him, but he bit my hand really hard. By the time I lifted the couch up again the bone was completely gone, so I assumed he ate it. What should I do?! He isn't even a year yet and he's turning 1 in February.

Well, you have to teach him possession rules just because somethings laying around doesn't mean its his and just because he has something doesn't mean its his. You need to learn how to claim stuff and definitely teach your dog not to bite you.

As for the chicken bone its encouraged not to give the dog these incase they choke on the bone. It doesn't mean every time he'll choke on it, there's just a big possibility of it. If he's normal and not choking he's fine. But I'm sure the bone is laying around somewhere. I highly doubt a tiny pomeranian could've eaten such a big bone so fast completely.

So, learn to claim and train him. next you could also try to redirect him.

It's really all been said here already - but stop with the liver which is more likely to give him the runs, than anything else. It's the splintering with chicken (cooked?) that causes the damage because once cooked, the digestive juices of the dog can't break down bone. Same for any cooked bone, not only chicken. With any luck, unless he crunched the bones up to allow splinters to be ingested, he's just trying to process the bones which may take some days. It's good that so far you've seen no blood, hopefully. Wait on your vet visit - but do go because this cannot be left.

Normally cooked chicken bones are much more dangerous for dogs to eat, or even chew on, because of possible splinters. The first thing you should do is make sure he isn't choking on the bone. Next, make sure he isn't in any stress and shows no signs of pain in the stomach area. Then, make sure he doesn't become constipated. If you are really worried about him, I would schedule a vet appointment for tomorrow morning for an x-ray, or maybe even go to the emergency vet for an x-ray tonight. As long as the bone was really big, I'm sure he'll be fine.

    Good luck with your baby!

Cooked bones are very dangerous for dogs. If it was raw you wouldn't have to worry about it as dog's can easily digest raw bones but cooked is something that can kill.

I have heard that feeding them come bread can help coat the bones to help hide any sharp points. I don't know how well it works but it is something I have heard numerous times.

I recommend you get on the internet right now and familiarize yourself with the signs of a blockage and then find the nearest e-vet and write down both the directions and the phone number so you have them handy in case something goes wrong. Keep a very close eye on your dog for the next few weeks as blockages can take that long to happen. Call your vet for advice if they are still open. Please don't just shrug this off as nothing.

Theres' not too much you can do now. Just keep an eye on him for the next few hours. How in the world was the tiny pup able to get the bone? It must have been in a bad place. Be more careful in the future

I've been there...It's good that he didn't choke on the bone. As long as he isn't in distress, just make sure he passes the bone. Cooked bones can puncture internal organs. Raw chicken bones are completely safe, but cooked bones can be deadly.

Take her to a vet ASAP, raw chicken bones are fine but cooked ones splinter and can cause problems.

give him a few slices of bread to cushion the bone and watch him for a few days make sure he's eating and pooping normally and if he seems in pain get him to a vet asap

    he should be alright

he's fine I got to the store to specifically buy my dog chicken legs for treats, they are the best and dogs LOVE them. as for the temperament issues, you need to train him that YOU are the boss and not to bite while eating, or snacking.
