What to do when a stranger knocks on my door and I'm home alone?

It's really dark outside right now. A person rang my doorbell. I was scared because my sister went somewhere and my parents went somewhere too, so I was alone. I ignored the bell, turned off the tv and completely froze. I froze for like 3 minutes, and the doorbell rang again. I ignored it again, and another 3 minutes later, the doorbell rang..again. I was so scared. If they were my family friends or my parent's friends, they would call my parents first and my parents would call me to tell that they were coming over to like pick up or drop off something. The reason why I was so scared was because I don't have a peephole..I have a thick glass in the middle of my door, so the people can see me from outside. After the three doorbells that went on for like 10 min, there were no more. I was afraid to call the police. What should I have done? Also, yesterday, my carpool dropped me off, and while she was waiting infront of my house to pick up her daughter, she saw these to black men ring my doorbell.. I was home alone that time, and they asked me if my parents were home. I quickly said no and closed the door, because I thought they were just advertising. But, today when my carpool came to come pick me up, she asked me who the men were. I said that they were probably advertisers, but my carpool told me that she saw them only go into my house.. Not any other houses.. Because you know when ur advertising u would visit all the houses.. So I was kinda suspicious of that.. Help?

Communicate with your family........maybe something is going on and they don't want to scare anyone and think everything is okay but maybe its not. TELL them what happened. And ask them how you should handle it in the future. When I'm home alone I always pretend someone is home because sometimes they are trying to figure out if no one is home so they can break in to rob the place. So yell out something like DAD get the door I'm on the phone, then call a neighbor and ask them to look out and see who is at your door and then maybe you will know if you should call the police

Tell your parents they could just want to contact your parents and it didn't work out.

If they are trying to do something harmful they wouldn't ring the doorbell.

If you truly believe they are harmful, then as soon as they come, quietly pick up the phone and go to a closed room and call the police.

If they never come again, then I think you are safe.

This is a worrying story and if it's true, then absolutely tell someone you trust about it all. A neighbour too and work out a sign to give them if it happens again. If by chance, you find someone trying to get in and you're terrified and home alone, grab a broom handle and press the 'test' button on your houses ceiling fire alarm, closest to the street side. Hold it in - your ears will hate it, but it'll get some notice.

I hate front doors with glass, make me feel unsafe. Replace the front door with a heavy solid one and a peephole. A survelliance camera hooked to tv or computer will cost about the same.

If you were freaked out then you did not have to answer the door if you did not want to.

momma always said never to answer the door or phone when you were home alone when you were young right ? if you knew that you could have been in danger then grab your " home protection device " and make sure its ready to speak if questions are asked... understand ?

The best thing that you can do is quit making up this stuff and putting it on this site. Even if your story was real why would you be asking it on yahoo answers in the dyi section? Wouldn't you be discussing this with the police?
