The Catholic Church coughs up more documents, why do people still support these child abusers?

http://news.yahoo.com/los-angeles-catholic-archdio...

They have been abusing children (don't forget the Magdalene laundries, either) for centuries. They have been shielding and protecting abusers from punishment. Now we have proof. Why would anyone continue to give money to these evil people in this evil organization?

Update:

@Private person, I feel perfectly safe judging the Catholic Church because I'm not a child abuser, I don't support child abusers, and I'm not a hypocritical money grubbing mafia like organization. How about them apples?

Update 2:

@Genegee - what is the source for your claim that only 2% of the priests are abusers? For every priest that abused, how many bishops, cardinals, and popes were covering up? The problem isn't even the number - it is the SYSTEMATIC COVER UP!!! The church organization, its highest ranking officers made the decision that money was more important than children or justice. You claim that only one or two rooms in the house are ugly and need repainting. That isn't the issue. Your house is structurally unsound and innocent people suffer while the owners live in gilded mansions paid for by the tithes of the poor. I wish Jesus were real, because I'd really enjoy seeing him get biblical on Mahoney, Law, Benedict, and the rest.

Have you bothered to read the files? I'm working my way through them. I was never a fan of Mahony, but what I've read so far has left me impressed. Incidences were reported to the police, abusive priests were removed from having contact with children and sent to therapy, and Mahony sought to remove them from the priesthood.

On August 28, 1992, Mahony wrote to his Vicar for Clergy, Msgr. Timothy Dyer, rejecting Kevin Barmasse's demand for $50,000 to aid in his transition to secular life:

"The Reverend Kevin Barmasse finds himself in this difficult situation as the direct result of his own personal behavior, behavior in total contradiction to the Ten Commandments, to the Teachings and the Gospel of Jesus Christ, to the duties and obligations of the Priesthood, and to the responsibilities accompanying Priestly Chastity and Celibacy. The Reverend Kevin Barmasse is NOT the victim in this matter; rather, he is the perpetrator of actions and conduct in total violation of his promises and commitment as a Catholic Priest. The real victims are those he has violated, the families of those victims, the Parish Communities in which he has served, and the entire Body of Christ, the Church."

Actually the church had about 2% of abusers but the world population has about 5% of abusers. The reason the church in made to look bad is the media makes a big deal out if it but if another religion does it, they may print it one time then it is forgotten. It is called bias against the Catholic. Now please do not get me wrong l have no use for abusers no matter who ar what they represent and if it were up to me l would take them on a walk in the woods and come back alone, that is if l could do it legally. their is no cure for those types of people.

As for the church having a history of corruption that is very true but one must keep in mind that the Protestant religion was not around during those times until Martin Luther, a Catholic priest did his thing around the late1500's.

I know we have all seen cults grow into religions but it seems Catholicism has made that journey and now receding back into cultish status. I have no clue why Catholics put up with this. The "those people are not true Catholics" is a dodge and many of the members and leaders turn the other way anytime they see or read things they don't like in the sect.

  • That's thing with these churches (not just Catholic), they hate gays, but protect pedophiles. I wouldn't let my kids anywhere near a church.

True story, my very first kiss was at age 13 in the back of a 33yo dude's van. Guess where I met him?

Youth Group!! Yep right there in the church parking lot.

All religions are a scam!!! They pretend gods and devils exist to gain control and money over the citizens of the land, then hoarde it all away so they can become the richest on the planet and get away with the most dastardly deeds!!! They are not through yet!!! There is much more to come in the years ahead!!!

Catholics reform the Church from the inside. We don't abandon her. The structure is sound.

The abusers are not the Church any more than citizens who are criminals define America.

This same stupid rant is getting weaker everyday.

The Roman Catholic Church should have been closed down years ago for its many crimes against humanity.
