What type of bird should i get?

I am thinking about getting a bird. I don't know very much about pet birds. The only birds I have ever had are chickens. I need a bird that lives less then 8 years and wouldn't be to expensive. Any ideas, information or suggestions will be helpful. Thank you in advanced.

I don't know how old pigeons live to but they're amazing pets and so easily tamed. I would suggest lovebirds but they can live for 30+ years. I have Asian blue quail and they only live around 2 years, though they're pretty much impossible to tame. Other than that I'd suggest Parakeets.

Unfortunately, most parrot-type birds (including parakeets) live at least 10-15 years (budgies, lovebirds etc) and larger birds can live to be 60+.

Now, that leaves you with finches, canaries etc. The problem is that these birds are not going to want to be interacted with/held etc. I don't know a lot about other birds (ducks, chickens, quail etc) but these could work if you're prepared for the maintenance of an indoor pet of this type.

Now, if you adopted an older budgie etc that could be a possibility as well. But a baby budgie etc will live longer than 8 years if properly cared for, fed and vetted.

Parakeets are just about the only bird I can think of. I had one. It lasted about six years. You just have to make sure you handle them or they become mean. They are easy in care, and they can learn to talk as well.
