Why does it take alot of heat to disrupt hydrogen bonds?

Also, how can water absorb lots of heat without a increase in temperature?

    As the hydrogen forms a strong bond due to two lone pairs of free electron and also hydrogen bonding exist due to to elecrto negativity. So a large amount of energy is required to break hydrogen bond.
