Is it Ok to mix subwoofer sizes?

I want to put a 12 inch subwoofer bandpass and a 15 inch ported in the same box. Is it OK if one is 8 ohm and the other is 4 ohm? Would I wire these parallel or series to a 4ohm 1 channel amp?. Right now, I just got a new 15 inch sub, and I have a 12 that I don't want to get rid of.

I'd expect those two speakers to work more against each other than otherwise. There's no telling just from size and impedance how they will perform. Missing important factors are frequency response and free air resonance. You need those factors to design the chamber sizes correctly.

Wired parallel, your impedance total would work out to about 5.3 ohms. That wouldn't hurt a 4 ohm stable amp. In series it would be 12 ohms.. Tht wouldn't hurt either, but you'd diminish a small amount of efficiency.

At any rate the whole thing would only be as good as the worse speaker.

Getting a sub on your position theater gadget is straightforward. in case you opt for earth shattering bass which will shake the walls you'll likely opt for a 15" sub, in case you opt for effective deep bass yet now to not the point of muddy overkill a 12" or 10" will do you properly. shop in ideas room length is significant, you do not opt for a huge 15" woofer in a tiny aparment mattress room even as a 8" or 10" could do advantageous. maximum subs are powered now a days and that i does not challenge as a lot about what number watts its putting out as a lot as choosing a respected company that makes high quality subs with a robust frequency reaction. buying a sub that is going all the way down to 20hz is actual gonna be extra severe priced than one which is going to round 30hz. You proper wager is to bypass to the shop and pay interest to distinct sizes & freq repsonses to ensure what variety your searching for and what agencies you want. (No Radio Shack junk). some accurate agencies are Velodyne, B&W, HSU and NHT. Klipsch, Polk, & JBL are extremely effective besides yet slightly more interior your budget. i have blanketed an internet site that lists a ton of sub agencies, there fashions and prices for each. Plus you are able to seek for with the help of driver sizes besides. So in truth locate the dimensions you opt for that delivers the approximent freq reaction you opt for then %. some agencies and locate the style that suits your needs. And shop in ideas, maximum individuals's subs in simple terms bypass all the way down to round 32-40hz so as which could probable be advantageous for you. in case you opt for an excellent sub with extra perfect performance your defintely going to pay for it. G'success. playstation . i'd inspect Velodyne for positive and B&W makes impressive audio gadget IMHO. and do not pay interest to the guy who says do not spend over $500 for an finished encompass sound gadget, it is utter nonsense. As maximum individuals understand, you should pay for high quality electronics (which will very last more, the WallMart DVD participant on particular for $29 without style call or a SONY? it is in simple terms straightforward experience.). i imagine a $500 sub could be tremendous, something less than that & the performance could be slightly a lot less so for you to pay interest and be conscious which of them you want proper.
