Are flat-screen monitors repairable?

My ASUS 20 inch flat-screen has lost some of its contrast, especially a 1-inch band across the bottom. I tried to click the monitor buttons to bring up the adjustments Menu. I got the Menu to display one time and now none of the buttons on the monitor has any effect. The monitor is about 6 years old.

    Almost anything is repairable. The question is whether it is worth the cost to repair. In most cases, it is less expensive to buy a new one.
