Legal question in families?
I am renting my Mobile Home to my niece and her kids who were homeless living in a tent. She had cancer surgery and is recovering. Is it legal for her to have welfare or FIA come in and do work on a home she has not purchased yet. Do i have a right to know what is going on with all of that? I told her I may sell her the Mobile Home for 1200 dollars because some squatters tore it up when the Court evicted them. Not to sure what to do or if it is legal even tho the fixing up is good for her, she don't own it.
I have a hand written agreement with her and all it says is she can paint. Any upgrades would be wonderful for her but I am 70 and somewhat confused at the moment. Tonight she told me she needs a copy of my records of her rent payments to show FIA for a new energy program. I would love to sell this to her, I can not live there because of my health. That is how the squatters got in there for eleven months using my utilities then destroying the kitchen and stealing 4000 dollars worth of my personal belongings that I didn't move here when I moved. My son and grandson were to be there and no one else.
Welfare or FIA will not, can not answer any of my questions, already tried that. I don't even know what help she is getting from there now and if her three adult sons are working or what. The teenage daughter is in school. Somehow she qualifies for lots of things for free. I need to make a trip to talk with her soon. Thanks everyone for taking time tonight.

It is your legal responsibility as the owner of the home to do all the maintenance ect. as disclosed by the landlord laws in your area. If someone volunteers to work on your property for you. All the papers would need to be legally signed by you. It is illegal for other to make modifications to your property without consent. Under the circumstances unless you are just giving your family the home, then no the welfare will not fix up someone else's property. I'm unsure about FIA laws however.

Be careful with that. I too have a family member living in my home. I am not charging her anything. However, the law states that if someone is living in your home and if they take it upon themselves with your knowledge to do work on the home they can in effect lay claim to the home unless it is spelled out in a contract. That's the law in most states.
If you let a person live in your home a few years technically in some states they can lay claim to it. Land and all.
Yes. It is your home and you have to know what is going on. If she makes upgrades to the property you may be on the hook to pay her back later.

Depends on what the lease terms stipulate. If you have no lease, you have little protection.
