How do you remove the baked on film from the glass on a gas fireplace?

I have a gas log fireplace that has a glass enclosure on the front. I can remove the glass, but nothing I have tried will remove the hazy film that is baked on the inside of the glass. Is there any tricks to remove this?

You should have window cleaner, rubbing alcohol, or acetone-based fingernail polish remover that would help. If the film is able to peel you might be able to scrape it off with a razor blade.

    Gas Fireplace Glass Cleaner

I would turn the fireplace on to soften the plastic and scrape it off gently with a glass scraper made for cleaning glass. Wear heat resistant gloves, safety glasses and protective clothing to prevent injury.

There is glass cleaner made for fireplace glass that should take off any remaining residue. It is very mildly abrasive but I wouldn't overdo it even with that.

I don't know if any of these will work, but I would try these:

    1. steel wool soap pad (careful about scratching, test in a small area in the corner first)

    2. steam cleaner

    3. oven cleaner (the kind that doesn't need to be baked). rinse thoroughly.

    4. ammonia (only after any other chemical has been thoroughly rinsed. also rinse this off thoroughly, don't want to have a fire hazard).

    5. baking soda and water

    6. white vinegar and water

    7. use your favorite search engine and ask the question - i find lots of solutions that way!

Creosote Glass Cleaner by Rutland... it's used to remove that very film from the glass on wood burning stoves,,, works great for me. Can be found at Home Centers or any outlet that sells wood stoves. or naturally Online.

Barkeepers Friend is a cleaner that I use on anything that other cleaners fail at. I recommend not using an abrasive cleaner (IE most oven cleaners) since they could scratch the glass.

Try BON AMI or VIM . Both are good, and won't scratch the glass. You might try spraying WD-40 on it, and try wiping it off. Works for removing most other stuff from glass and enamelled paint.

I just use window cleaner. Spray the cleaner on and use an abrasive type of a bathroom cleaning pad of some kind. You have to scrub it pretty hard but, it will come off.
