Can I cancel DirecTv for raising their prices?

I have another 7 months on my DirecTv contract but I've heard that as of this week, they're raising their prices by roughly 10%, since I don't agree to this, do I have a legal right to cancel my contract with them with no early termination fee? I mean I have no complaints to DirecTv except for their prices, so can I do this or not? Thanks :)

Update:

As far as I know I never even signed something when I actually had my satellite installed. It was all done by my property managers but I know I agreed to online to do it, not sure of the terms though.

you cant cancel, you agreed to give them the right to change prices or lose channels. the good news is you only have 7 months left..assuming you returned the equipment your early termination fee would be $140.00. you could lower your bill by canceling any service plan or programming your not watching to ease your cost a bit until contract is up. keep in mind..about every other Feb is when all providers tend to raise prices

suspending your service as mentioned above can be done but doesn't help you at all. those months are not applied to the 24 months of service you agreed to.

the other "great contract trick" that does not work is canceling the credit card that you used as non payment reimbursement. ...you also gave them permission to attach any future credit card account that you get should this one some how be closed. the crap part from directv is that you may have never seen physically signed any paperwork at all. but with a magnifying glass read the fine print of any brochure or website where the prices are viewable and you will see its stated that by activating service you agree to the terms and service agreement that can be downloaded as a pfd at some obscure website..it sucks and directv should be held liable for this underhanded crap but welcome to 2013 and directvs massive legal department

Just ride out the contract so that you don't suffer the expense of paying extra for a early termination fee. Because if they charge you a early termination fee, then there was no point in you cancelling the service to avoid the upcharge.

Here's my advice, get wi-fi, a Roku TV or Apple TV, and a netflix subscription and be done with cable if you can live without it. For the amount of money that consumers pay, we are only watching between 4-5 channels and the rest are informercial channels that we never look at.

You can cancel at any time but your customer agreement includes an early termination fee as you know. The real question is whether they are in breach of contract because they raised their prices. They are not. The customer agreement you signed online (online signatures are legally binding) gives them the right to raise prices at any time.

The average person will see a 5% increase this year, and this happens almost every year due to increased channel additions and higher costs.

I tried to cancel my membership with them, but they said it was clearly stated on the contract that I signed that they have the right to raise their prices anytime. Do you still have the contract you signed when the DirectTV guy installed your satellite? The terms and condition should be listed on there somewhere around your signature.

If you're like me, you probably didn't read it, because it was like size 6 font, and you just wanted to watch DirectTV.

So to answer your question..in my case, NO, I was not able to opt out of my contract. I was able to get a discount free about a year, and some free movie channel. Maybe try playing hardball with them, and you might be able to get out of your contract.

It's within their legal right. And you do not have a legal right to cancel out on the contract you signed which, states that they can do this. Should you do so, you will be charged an early termination fee.

However, a loop hole in the system, you can request a temporary suspension of service. Tell them you're going out of town (for like six months). I think that's the maximum you can suspend your service. But call directtv or read your contract, if you remember where it's at.

I would look up your states laws and regulations, and just make sure they are following every little detail.
