What is the accepted social convention for funerals nowadays?

Do people expect you to wear black still? I seen on the telly that people usually make the grieving family a casserole or something- is that something I should do? Is it expected?

I know I seem a bit dense with this question but I was VERY sheltered from death etc. growing up, so I am not really sure what I am supposed to do.

Show up in black. Get nice flowers if you can afford it. If not, then yes, you can make a dish for the grieving family. make something that you are good at, it does not have to be a casserole.

Again yes wear the black, but not sexy. You don't have to bring anything, just your self and give them your condolences.

A casserole is just one of the many comfort foods available.
