Baby food question and age?
When u first introduce baby food did you do rice first then the baby food? Or just baby food straight away. Also has anyone waited till baby was 1 year to introduce any foods to baby? How old was your baby when u first gave them baby food or rice. Thanks :) I'm not really in any hurry to give my baby food just curious to when I do start introducing food.

6 months. and please skip that boxed white rice. That is old grandma days tradition. Studies have shown this isn't a good first food. That crap is 94% highly processed white starch, about the same as giving your child table sugar. Docs tell us to avoid white starches, and many new current docs say no to white rice as a first food. (my boys all suffered severe tummy pains, one ended up going to the hospital he was so badly bound up. Well-meaning family snuck the stuff to the lil ones as they said ""grandma did it, I had it, we all turned out fine"" justification.)

and for the more daring parent (no need for teeth to gum chew soft finger good size pieces)
for most babies there is no medical need to give baby bland tasteless mush from a jar.

The first food I tried was puree apple at 5 months. In those days we were told to only give breast milk before 4 months to prevent allergy. [LATE 1980s] I waited until a year to give pasteurized milk, and before that mixed baby rice or porridge with boiled water. I also waited until a year, before I gave her anything cooked with salt, and pork or other pig products, as they are naturally salty.
A friend said a baby's first foods should be those that are native to where you live, so did not give bananas or rice until her child was established on solids. I introduced one food at a time, so it was easier to see if anything caused a problem.

Rice IS 'babyfood.'
I did opt to start with rice (it was convenient) but there is no nutritional or medical reason to do so.
I started solids at around 5 1/2 months. (My daughter is a young woman now, and when she was a baby the standard advice was still '4-6 months' rather than the current '6 months.')

doctor's recommend between 4 and 6 months. 1 year is too late, a baby should be eating a whole plethora of foods by 1 year.

Latest recommendations are to exclusively milk feed (breast milk if possible) until 6 months. At that point, introduce veg, then fruit, then grains, followed by meat and dairy. This can always change based on a pediatrician's recommendation for your individual situation however.
