Mac Book question. Where is a word processor?

My Mac Book is about 1 1/2 yrs old- as a reference. Where on it is a 'word processor' that I can compose a book and have it just on my computer. In my trash I have an 'untitled folder' but how to I 'make' a folder to compose on??

    Your word processor is called TextEdit. It's in the Applications folder. It's a very nice word processor.
