You aren't Apache.
If you were born after 1978, the Indian Child Welfare Act prohibits an indian child from being adopted by a non-native family, and gives the tribe control over the placement of native children. So if you were apache, you'd have been raised in an apache family.
You also don't "register as native american" any more than you "register as caucasian". You enroll as a citizen of a tribal nation, if you meed the requirements. Which of the thirteen Apache tribes are you claiming to be descended from? (the minimum blood required for citizenship varies, usually 1/4 to 1/8th)
You would need to open the adoption records, and apply for your CDIB (certificate of degree of indian blood) with the BIA (Bureau of Indian Affairs)
Also, don't know how you think being Indian will help for college. Scholarships are given by the tribes themselves, to their own citizens. They are academically competitive, and most require fluency in the tribe's language, community service within the tribe, and an intention to use the degree to benefit the tribe.
Kinda sad that you are only interested in asking what YOU can get out of it, and not what you could do to benefit the tribe.

you will desire to be an enrolled tribal member as a fashion to qualify for advantages (the nicely suited to vote in tribal elections, have a house on tribal land, and so on.). each tribe designates their own enrollment standards alongside with minimum blood quantum. in case you meet the tribe's enrollment standards then you definately can persist with for enrollment and likely will replace into enrolled. With enrollment comes the advantages (yet in all danger not what you're thinking approximately ($). ) in case you're actually not enrolled (no rely your blood quantum) you have no rights with the tribe.
