2007 SLK280 in limp mode... any suggestions?

I own a 2007 SLK280 with approximately 60,000 miles on it. It's been serviced regularly. I've never had any problems with this car. I'd driven home from work (approximately 40 miles) on a major highway, at speeds between 75-85 mph. I came to a full stop after exiting the toll plaza and heard a subtle pop come from under the hood. My car then immediately went into limp mode and the check engine light came on. I've done some research and it appears the problem might be a transmission solenoid. Anyone with experience willing to share some information? Does that sound like it might be the problem? Cost of repair?

Thanks!

Sorry, but you are on your way to the mechanic. Past experience including a 70 mile trip back to the dealer on a roll-back you are looking at about 3 bills.

If the 722.9 transmission is indeed in limp-mode, you will likely either require a valve body solenoid kit or a new valve body. Have the vehicle properly diagnosed to confirm.

    Take it to the dealer

There's no way to estimate the repair cost until you know what's wrong

reset the ECU/PCM by taking battery off for 30 mins and see if it does it again if so get the codes checked and it will tell u what the problem is
