How to get inspiration for my Story?

For Literature I have to re-write a fairytale.

So I choose Cinderella as it's the one I know most off..

Except I have the new plot, and everything I just can't write it.

Any suggestions?

Or should I give up and try another fairytale that has more inspiration?

Update:

I can actually do anything with the story but this is what I decided to do-

• Step Mother dies (gruesomely).

• Step Sisters get locked in a room with a mirror for the rest off their lives.

• The Prince gets bothered by Cinderella’s constant moaning off self esteem issues (From her step sister’s constant nagging throughout her live)

• The Fairy godmother turns to dust before she reminds Cinderella about midnight.

• Her Glass Slipper still ends up with the prince.

• The Prince dies early, from stress and constant nagging- Leaving Cinderella a happily ever after with his inheritance.

I'm just not sure how to start and when to set it.

Was it the plot you were supposed to rewrite? I dont think it would be Cinderella if the story was changed. If thats the one you know most of and you have the plot written, whats holding you back?

Maybe you can try throwing a little twist in, like making the setting modern, rather than... medieval or whatever the setting was originally. Or make it futuristic :D

Or pull a sort of cross over with something like Romeo and Juliet, switching Cinderella with Juliet?

I dunno. Add a bit of detail for the other answerers.
