What are some really good vet schools that can help me acheive my dream of becoming a equine vet?
Hi. I been reaching colleges a lot lately. My problem is that I don't want to go to far from home. I would like an awesome school that is around Kansas. I would love to have a career where I work with equine animals rather than cats and dogs. I love horses! I just don't know where to start. Any suggestions? (A college with an extra program on riding horses would be great.)

First off you need to go to an undergraduate school and receive your bachelors degree in animal science or a specific pre-veterinary bachelors, which is about 4 years. Then you would go on to a graduate school for your DVM, another 4 years. Veterinary schools are not as abundant as a normal doctor program so you may have to go out of state. The top veterinary colleges are Cornell, UC Davis, Purdue, and a few others. UC Davis is an excellent sports medicine program that works frequently with horses, William woods in Missouri also has a very large equine program. After you get your DVM then you will go to another 4 years so specialty school to become an equine specialists. (1 years internship, 3 years residency, and then you need to be board certified.)
Another thing to consider is that veterinary school is extremely competitive, even students with 4.0 GPA's don't always get in. So look for externships at local practices or even volunteering. The more experience is always better. And another thing to keep in mind is that veterinary school is hard, people quit and become human doctors instead.
Good luck to you!

After you graduate with a BS in biology or chemistry, apply to the University of Pennsylvania. Their equine medicine institute is actually in New Jersey. Maybe ask for a visit sometime.

Are you aware Vet School is a graduate study and you have to get a Bachelor's degree first?
Where you get your Bachelor's degree doesn't matter.
