How to clean a western saddle pad stain?
Ok, this is a never before used western felt saddle pad that is black and white (zebra print). Its never been on a horse so the bottom part is perfectly clean. Its the top pretty side that I'm trying to take care of. My saddle is an old saddle so when it rubbed on this certain part it left a sort of a stain as an ugly reddish brown that I really need to get rid of. Its called a zebra built-up cut back pad by Mustang according to the tag I haven't taken off yet. I need it to look clean and pretty so I can maybe sell it because its extra built in stuff doesn't allow it to fit my special saddle very well on any horse (makes it to narrow). Any advise is appreciated. Thanks.
2 AnswersHorses8 years agoWhat kind of bit do I use on a beginner horse?
I'm trying to start a 10yr old quarter horse mare for western riding. We are not quite up to the point but I want to know what kind of bit I should start her out on. I highly prefer a bit that is gentle because I know a bit with to much bite will confuse and scare my mare. She is a very willing mare so I'm trying to keep as much pain out of the equation of training. What bit should I use? Or what should I use instead? keep in mind that I have a very tight budget.
8 AnswersHorses8 years agoHelp! What can I do to help my saddle that keeps drying out?
I received a beautiful old saddle from my neighbors as a gift. It hasn't been taken care of in a long time because its been sitting in a hanger for 20 some years. (no joke.) I oiled it and oiled it, but it seems like in a matter of a day or so its dried out again. I put over 20 hrs. into oiling it. Its getting ridiculous because I want to really use it but i have to "break in the stirrups" my riding instructor said. I tried that many times and one time a stirrup tore a little bit. I got the stirrup fixed now but I am tired of doing the same thing over and over again. The guy who fixed my saddle said its really dried out but all you need to do is brush on oil. You dont need to soak it. I done that 5 times before it even went to the shop! What do I do? Saddle soap nearly ruined it. I'm afraid to soak it in water. What can i do?
2 AnswersHorses8 years agoJust Curious, if I got a horse what would I do with it if a tornado came through my area?
I been wondering this for a long time. Some people just put their horses in the barn and hope for the best. In the old days (like in Wizard of Oz) people would release their horses and run for shelter. What do you do to keep your horse safe with a tornado warning now? When you have a dream of owning a horse this is one of the main concerns when you live in tornado valley.
5 AnswersHorses8 years agoSay I can't go through with all the vet school, what careers mostly deals with equine animals?
I am defiantly not the smartest student is my class but not the worst either. I have a great love and passion for all equine animals. What would be a less school time career yet I can still make a decent life style off of it that deals with horses most of the time?
1 AnswerHigher Education (University +)8 years agoWhat are some really good vet schools that can help me acheive my dream of becoming a equine vet?
Hi. I been reaching colleges a lot lately. My problem is that I don't want to go to far from home. I would like an awesome school that is around Kansas. I would love to have a career where I work with equine animals rather than cats and dogs. I love horses! I just don't know where to start. Any suggestions? (A college with an extra program on riding horses would be great.)
3 AnswersHigher Education (University +)8 years agohow do I get someone to train a 10 year old wild mare?
My grandma owns a 10 year old mare that my granddad was going to train but sadly passed away from cancer before he could. I'm probably not allowed to try to train her myself or at least get very far. I keep getting told to get a professional trainer, but I have 2 problems with that. 1st: its very expansive. And 2nd transporting her is almost impossible because I don't think we have a trailer or could get a trainer to come out. What can I do to help my grandma? More importantly, help her mare?
