Because God made them filthy, vile and contemptible... yet delicious. A lot like children, when you think about it.

Simply because the dietary guidelines given to the Israelites exclude swine.

Prior to the flood in the days of Noah, nobody was supposed to eat animals. Following the flood, God told Noah that all animals could be eaten and that was OK.

When the children of Israel left Egypt and were headed to the Land of Promise, they were given numerous dietary restrictions, including a prohibition against swine.

All the pigs in the world have trichina worm infestation, not just a few.

When I was in college, a student took some sausage he was served at breakfast back to the lab and was able to culture a living strain of trichina worm from it. The heat of the cooking process hadn't killed all the trichina worm in that sausage.

Decades ago, Chicago mandated a trichina worm study in all autopsies. They found trichina worm infestation in 70% of the cases.

One of my professors had done considerable research into the dietary laws in the Torah and discovered that every single law has a sound scientific basis.

Being part Jewish myself, I strictly obeyed the kosher laws for decades. I make an occasional exception now, particularly when I'm eating with friends and they serve something that's not kosher. I feel it's more important to maintain fellowship rather than refuse to eat octopus, shrimp or bacon.

Those who wrote the bible, at the time, thought of pigs as being "unclean", and therefore, if you eat an unclean animal, you become unclean also.

Animals that ate off the land, such as cows and sheep, were considered "clean"....and pigs, which eat about anything....were then considered unclean.

Of course, no ones says anything about chickens, which eat bugs and stuff also, and sometimes, crap off the ground.

And fish, that also eat bugs, and other things...

If anything, I would consider them unclean as the pigs.

But anyway....I do enjoy my pork chops...and bacon.

Some of the people who won't eat pork have less hygiene than the swine...very ironic

Some animals on this Earth cant be eaten...some will kill you, if you eat it.

alot of folks believe that pigs are dirty creatures...which would only become dirty after the fall of men.

everything was pure before the fall
