Help checking Linear equation?

Ok I know how to find the solution to the problems but I cannot figure out how to check the work properly. Here they are....

8(2 - t) = -5t

16 - 8t = -5t

+8t +8t

16 = 3t

= 16/3

check:

8(2 - 16/3) = -5(16/3)

This is where I get stuck.... how do i distribute 8(16/3)

my book shows ... 8(6/3 - 16/3) = - 80/3

^ i dont know how you get that 6/3

heres another similar problem

5(2x + 3) = -1 + 7

10x + 15 = -1 + 7

10x + 15 = 6

- 15 -15

10x = -9

10x 10x

check:

5(2(-9/10) + 3) = -1 + 7

not sure how to check these ....

    What your book did was find common denominators for 2 and 16/3. This would be 3, so the multiplied 2 by 3 and divided, giving you:

    6/3 - 16/3

    Notice how 6/3 is 2.

    Anyway, to distribute, you multiply what's outside the parenthesis by the numerators, so

    8(6/3 - 16/3)

    would be:

    (8*6)/3 - (16*8)/3

    48/3-128/3

    -80/3

    Alternatively, since what's inside the parenthesis now have a common denominator, you could subtract directly, and then multiply:

    8(6/3 - 16/3)

    8(-10/3)

    -80/3

    Same thing with the numbers on the right of the equal sign:

    -5(16/3)

    Just multiply the numerators

    -80/3
