What are the best beginner scooters?

I've been looking for a 50cc moped scooter or a 125cc - 150cc scooter. I can't afford a Vespa or Kymco, so I'm probably going to end up with a Chinese scooter from Craigslist. I can only afford to spend like $900 absolute max. Which brands are the best? I was going to buy an Adventure, but the guy just completely stopped answering me. I'm willing to put work into it if I have to. I'm near Pittsburgh, if that matter. Thanks for helpful answers. If you're just going to refer me to a scooter forum, don't bother.

I have heard of many problems with Chinese scooters. Main problem is that there is no manufacturer or dealer support. *MUCH* better to buy an older Japanese scooter such as:

If you're only willing to spend 900$, look on Craigslist for an older scooter. You can find these anywhere, especially 50CC.

It may cost around 100$ for some cosmetic work, but at least you don't have a crappy Chinese scooter.

But if you can't find one, look for a Schwinn Chinese scooter. These are probably the most reputable Chinese brand.

Also look for some other okay brands like TAO TAO or Hyousung.

All 50 cc scooters are fine for beginners. Try to find a schwinn at least you can get parts for the chinese made thing.
