Weight loss surgery question?

Im 16 and have a bmi of 30.1 and am 50 lbs over weight and have type 2 diabetes. Can I get weight loss surgery or no? And I heard it cures diabetes is it true?

Update:

I don't want to diet so is surgery better? What is the difference between diet and surgery?

No one will operate on you at your age and with that BMI.

You are just going to have to go through it the old fashioned way... diet and exercise.

Surgery has risks... would you really be willing to risk your life to avoid a diet?

Gastric bypass is major surgery and it has many risks. Some of these risks are very serious. You should discuss these with your doc.

Risks for any surgery or anesthesia include:

    Allergic reactions to medicines

Blood clots in the legs that may travel to your lungs

    Blood loss

    Breathing problems

Heart attack or stroke during or after surgery

Infection, including in the cut, lungs (pneumonia), bladder, or kidney

There are a number of risks for any weight-loss surgery. There are also risks that are more likely after gastric bypass surgery.

The surgery is also not the last step... you need to diet and exercise after the surgery. Diet is also the FIRST step to this surgery. If you don't diet and exercise, they won't attempt the surgery because that would just make it a dangerous short cut.

So if you'll need to diet and exercise before and afterwards... why not skip the life threatening part and just diet and exercise? They'll also ask you about your history... they don't just grab people who don't feel like dieting to do this... they'll see what attempts you have made on your own, look at the risks involved with preexisting conditions you have, your psychological status, and your age. If you're under 18, you'll have a hard time finding a doctor to do this.

If you have a BMI of 30 and diabetes, you MIGHT find a doctor who would be willing to do it... but I had lost 80 pounds at 15 years old... surgery was NOT necessary.
