Can I change my Facebook "interested in" without it any of my friends noticing?

I'll be going to university this year and realised that I never set an "interested in" on my Facebook. Since I'm going to be meeting a lot of new people I realise that some of them are problem going to look at my info and I don't want them to think that I'm gay (having nothing against gay people, I just don't want any girls to get the wrong idea heh heh), so I want to set my interested in to women, but at the same time I know every time you change a damn setting on facebook it pops up all over the newsfeed and I don't really want my friends thinking that's weird (like I've just made that decision now xD and I don't want my parents to think I'm just doing it to put myself on the market or anything).

I know this is pretty stupid, but I get paranoid about this kind of stuff. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks :)
