Is a canon rebel t3i a good camera?

My birthday is coming up and I want to start being more serious about my photography. So far I only have a Canon Powershot A3400. It takes pretty good photos for a point and shoot. Anyway, the camera I've been wanting is a Canon Rebel T3I and I was wondering if that would be a good starter DSL camera? I mean, for a mediocre photographer like me. If not, do you have any suggestions?

Add the Pentax K-r to the above list and find a dealer who'll let you handle them - that's the acid test of any camera.

The Canon Rebel T3i is a great starter camera, but I bought the Nikon D3100. You should look for serious reviews such as Canon Rebel T3i vs. Nikon D3100 (or another camera) and see which one comes up as the best.

All the more, it all depends on how skilled the photographer is when using the camera. A professional with a beginner camera could beat a beginner with an expensive camera.

I graduated from the Canon G10 a bridge camera to the canon t3i. I wish I would have skipped the bridge camera although it takes really good pictures and video, it was quite expensive. I should have just gone for dSLR. I love the way the t3i fitsand feels in my hand, it's a nice weight too. I am using the kit lens but my husband bought the efs 55-250mm too. I am still learning about the camera but the quality of the pictures is great as is the video. Very clear. I simply love it. My other choice was the nikon 3200.

Sure the T3i is a good starter Camera. But before you settle on Canon Check out the Nikon D5100 and Sony A57.

All three are great starter cameras that are in the same price range. Sony however offers allot of affordable prime lenses that do have better bang for the buck then both Canon and Nikon.

I'd suggest going to a camera store to handle and try all three. You have to be certain which camera is easiest to use and understand. Once you start to invest in lenses and other accessories you will be locked into that brand.

I'd also look into Pentax to. Though allot of camera dealers by me have stopped selling Pentax in favor of Sony in recent years.
