What kinds of fish can stay with a male betta?

    That's too hard to answer without knowing the tank size. In general, anything small and non aggressive like guppies and tetras. Some things like barbs can be nippy, especially on a betta's tail.

    Depends on the size of the tank. I would recommend a 20 gallon or larger. Smaller tetras (without long fins), rasboras, corycats, otocinclus, and many other community fish can be kept with a male betta. Do not get danios, barbs, gouramis, or other bettas, as they will nip at the fins of the betta. Be aware that most community fish require schools of 6 or more. Do research before buying the fish.
