40th birthday party theme ideas needed! :)?

Definitely a 1970's or 1980's theme party. If it's 1980's party, do a Hollywood movie inspired party theme. You could do a Grease theme, Revenge of the Nerds theme, American Bandstand theme, Dance Fever theme, etc. Or, give her a karaoke party.

Everything Black and Glitter. Happy 40th or Over The Hill on cups and plates and balloons, candies, cake and black tablecloths? Have random games of the 70', raffle how many people can guess things about that person, have gag gifts lying around on tables for people to play with. Have random quotes of the 70' or tidbits. Blow up an embarrassing picture but not a bad one. Have a photo book with things that were memorable from when he or she was born to now Have framed, baby picture, high school photo, family, have a signature drink that looks black. I remember my mom throwing it for my dad and that is what she did, It was super fun. I wish you the best luck, planning is always the hardest. Have Fun ;)

"Party Like It's 1973" (only without the pot or free love). Everybody dresses like hippies. Decorate with things like beads, lava lights, etc. Make "pot brownies" (just regular brownies), etc. Have incense burning.

plan it around something she really likes- favorite movies, time era, colors, books, favorite hobby or activities.
