Extreme weight loss - what rate? (theoretical question!)?
I'm writing a short story which involves imprisonment without food for a very obese male character. I'd like to know how fast weight loss might occur for a very fat person if they didn't eat at all. They would have access to water only.
My idea is to have this happening for several weeks, I don't really mind how long I just want it to be plausible. I'm assuming with sufficient liquids a person could survive for at least a month and maybe up to four months? At what kind of rate would they lose weight - say a stone a week?

They would hold on to the weight for quite some time. Only after a few weeks or more, depending on countless factors, would they start to shrink after the body stops putting up a fight. Fat people are often found still fat after more than a week being lost in the wilderness with no food.
A difference is if they have minimal food after living with abundance. These are the people you see on reality shows who lose 30 pounds in a month from eating bananas and nuts etc while building huts and doing challenges all day. This is after having eating a pot roast and sitting still for 20 years in their real life. It makes sense that they lose weight like that.
What will not make you lose weight is starvation. Your body holds on to the fat until it basically gives up on you and just gets ready to let you die.

I too be afflicted by epilepsy, and that i no longer often elect to eat in any respect. (regrettably i'm no longer dropping as plenty weight as you're -i'm 5'9 and weigh a hundred forty five. (I used to weigh 115lbs. Are you taking Dilantin or the different anti seizure meds? I take Lamictal purely now. i've got been advised i'm dehydrated besides ( i do no longer drink sufficient water- I drink a great style of espresso) i think of the iron theory could be an extremely stable factor. i grow to be on Dilantin because i grow to be 28 and that i'm 40 5 now and go through grand mals and straightforward partial seizures as quickly as each week. that is hell. All I ate the former day grow to be a cup of espresso and a muffin. I basically did no longer sense hungry. How long have you ever had epilepsy and what form of seizures do you adventure? My Dilantin point grow to be poisonous and that they switched me to clonopin and Lamictal. ward off alcohol and medicines (except they're prescribed) email me in case you elect to. stable success!

With just water, a very obese person could survive for a few weeks [maybe 3 or 4] without food
