How do you take care of a dog/puppy?
Hi..
1 week ago my friend came over to my house in a hurry and asked me to watch her puppy, I said okay and she handed it to me and gave me a couple things then left and said she would call later.
Little did I know that she was on her way to her mothers house in a hurry and the roads were very slippery from the ice... she passed away and now I have her puppy with me.
I hadn't seen my friend in a while and she had just gotten this pup. He doesn't have a name, I don't know his age or breed. She left his collar, leash, food and water bowl and food.
I am not going to give her puppy away, but I don't know how to care for a dog. I love dogs but have never owned one, only as a very young child (6-7 years old).
The kind of food she left me was called " Iams " and I went out and bought another bag. I have been feeding him according to the bag and I take him outside to pee after he eats, drinks, and wakes up. He has had a few accidents.
I went to the dollar store and got him a leash, flea shampoo and chew toy.
I was hoping some experienced dog owners could give me some tips? What do I need to buy? Should I take him to the vet? Should I walk him? What should I feed him? I want the absolute best life for this puppy. I have $7,000 in savings just in case... how much of this should be used for him? I don't care if I have to use it all. I can keep saving.
I am in a good financial situation, I have a house, stable job and life. I will do whatever is nessecary for this puppy to be happy, I just don't know how to accomplish that.
So any tips or information at all is honestly very appreciated.
Oh, and what breed could he be? He is a male, he looks pretty young, he has a wrinkly face and he is brown with a white tipped tail and a little white an his face and paws.. Here is 2 pictures of him,

He sleeps a lot and I was just wondering if you know what breed he is, would he be a good exercise companion? I am big into running, hiking, and any kind of activity. I work a night shift and leave him in my kitchen at night with some blankets, pee pad (just in case, I don't really know how to potty train him), chew toys and food/water.
Sorry if this was long, I really just want the best for him.
Oh and, what should I name him? She had just gotten him and he doesn't have a name. I have no clue and have just been calling him dog or puppy.
thank you
I was researching and I heard of something called "puppy kindergarten"... should he be going to this? How do I go about finding a good one and what do they do there?
Okay I called a Vet that seems to have great reviews and explained my situation, he was very helpful and nice and said I could come in tomorrow and he would explain all about the shots he needs and stuff.
Can someone provide me with a list of what you need for a dog/puppy?

He's a boxer puppy (: no more than ten weeks
Yes he would make an excellent exercise buddy
I would recommend blue buffalo wilderness
Take him to the vet to get shots and such
Don't walk him until at least a week after shots
EDIT:
Since you have little experience with dogs it'd be best to find a trainer
Look up local ones and see the reviews for them
EDIT:
Here is a great puppy essentials list

Take him to a vet. They will give you EVERYTHING you need to know about him. If you already have or had a pet use the same vet.
Buy him a few toys that are durable, he looks like a strong dog, (he looks like a boxer) If he doesn't shed a lot then keep him inside, if he does shed a lot then buy him a big crate with a lot of room for him to play and vacuum once a week or so. Walk him once a day and take him out before and after his meals. Go to home depot or somewhere where you can find a door with a doggy door if you have a backyard or fenced in area outside. Good luck, and sorry about your friend :( as for puppy kindergarten I recommend taking him if you want a well behaved dog.
