Do some, all or no churches these days use scripture in preaching?

why is it some preachers just tell good stories? some use 1 verse and speak on it, to get into their story.i was thinking about the new testament church, did they not meet daily for breaking of bread? what was the purpose for meeting together? what is their purpose for meeting together today, the same?

Update:

Brian , i notice you quote the same scripture on other peoples question, and you are not answering the question.

At the judgment, it will be revealed that this church, today, is naked, lukewarm, blind, wretched, miserable and deceived to the core.

You hit it. Even the few which still read a verse or two, then spin their own tales about it and preach the lies of their 'leaders' or headquarters.

The only true Church, recorded in the Book of Acts, not only studied the Word of God daily, but they went out and proved with their mighty works, that they had the power that goes with true believing.

They healed the sick, raised the dead and stopped storms.

they had the truth. I do not know of a single church today which has the truth. Now they can all claim to be the right one, but their dead works prove they are synagogues of satan.

Rev says the seat of satan is in the church. Like it or not, this is true, and why they cannot take the truth of God and his Word.

I talk to many preachers and they simply know nothing of the Word of God. Most of them NEVER read it. I have heard preachers admit that they never actually read the Word, but only read what others say about the Word.

Hence, they are all believing and teaching lies.

therefore, theirs is a dead church. it takes the truth to get the power. Acts 2.

And this is the very reason we see so many slaughtering 1Cor 14 and claiming women have no part in God's ministry. They do not ever read the preceding or following verses, which prove that Paul was NOT SAYING THAT.

Some use scripture but very little and usually out of context

Some use much scripture then twist it to fit their paradigm

I don't think there is anything that can be said is done in all churchs. that is too general a statement.

Acts 2 after Peters sermon is perhaps what we should be doing. Or Like the boreans testing everything that we hear against the scriptures.

I think bible study is the best format.

I've spoken Its a lot of time up there and if it's all just scripture and no stories or homilys soon the whole audience is asleep.

    Dear Friend,

The 'totality' of the Word of God is to be taught to all the church (body of believers). Very sad that in many of today's churches instead of going to praise and worship a "Holy" God, and learn how to apply God's Word in their daily lives, people go to church as a ...social event. God is not impressed. The pastor is to be their earthly shepherd and be a Godly role model for the congregation. Think about that.

    Blessings,

  • Probably.

The first test though is to separate what is scripture, and what is not scripture, but in many 'Bibles' currently.

My point; God's old testament is the law of Moses, whereas Satan's old testament (which is NOT SCRIPTURE) but is the index, defines o.t. as Genesis-Malachi.

The Catholic Church has used its book for preaching at every Mass since it compiled the book at the end of the 4th Century. And it used the texts even before they were compiled into a book.

Some. Just like with everything else in the world, dude. There are no absolutes except the lack of absolutes.

All real churches use scripture in preaching. Those that don't are not Christian.

if its expedient, i always use scripture.

but there are some topics that cannot be defined by the bible alone.

My church is not a Christian church, we therefore do not rely on Christian scriptures.
