SAT scores? (Let's commiserate / celebrate together!)?
So. That dreaded period has arrived (scores are out guys), and... I scored waayy off target so I'm kind of pissed at myself :P Other than that, what did other people score? Also, to those SAT veterans out there, any advice for us neophytes? (SAT vocab.... :'( curse you SAT)
Target score was 2250+
Reality (composite) = 2130
Reading: 730
Maths: 710
Writing: 690, Essay score: 9
So... my writing kind of sucked, given that it's supposed to be my strongest point :P I think it might have been exam jitters, my essays are usually 10/11s, so I'm not terribly sure what went wrong there, I remember being very nervous at the beginning... But I still did pretty badly given my usual performance :-/ Hope to do better next time!
What did you guys get? Want to swap SAT sob / success stories? Any goals / advice on how to improve?

Your scores are amazing, and I hope you are congratulating yourself even if they weren't everything you dreamed of.
You say you normally got 10/11s - SAT essay grading is not that well understood by people who haven't done it formally and they may have been giving you higher estimates. Same is true for autograders. However, the score difference between a 9 and a 10 or 11 is marginal. You can probably get more gain polishing up your MC skills.
Overall, the issue for you will be caution about retakes. Colleges, especially at the level you will be aiming at, do not like to see retakes without clear gains and at your level there is little gain room left and a whole lot of risky downward room. I would strongly suggest getting a private experienced tutor and working with them extensively before retrying. Classes, while useful for some, will be a waste of time for you, just get someone who specialises in getting 2100 kids to 2250+

As a first timer, mine was a 580 for the Critical Readings...grrr. i got a 630 math, and 630 writing. Combined score, 1840. I was expecting a solid 2000, guess that didn't go as planned. I'm retaking it in March and then May/June and I'm hoping for around a 2050 or 2100 total. Congrats, you did really well! What colleges are you thinking of applying too?

Better than mine before I entered college
My best scores on Math and writing were in the high 500s and my best reading score was a 380 or something. I always scored really high on my essays, but that was about it.
You cannot "improve" on these tests because they do not test you on how much you know, but what you know. The questions are based more on trickery than on actually you learning the material. The only way to do well is to take it over and over. Three times max!
