How would you describe Polk’s stated and unstated reasons for going to war? How do they differ? Are they legitimate reasons, in your opinion, for a country to go to war?

    Go to the Source I provide below. If you read this PBS article, you will find the answers to your questions ... except for the last one. You, and only you, should make up your own mind whether Polk's reasons for going to war against Mexico were "legitimate".

    Well, maybe "legitimate" isn't a very good word to use, because governments (not just the US government, but all governments) seem to find a way to pronounce their wars "legitimate". Instead of "legitimate", I suggest you think of Polk's decision as being "Just or Unjust" ... or maybe even "Sensible or Stupid".
