SAT critical reading question?
Hi guys,
I am having a bit of trouble with SAT critical reading. Here is my background- I am taking AP English (B- right now) (i know, not to hot)... and i am a junior. I have not yet taken a "real" SAT yet, just practice test from the blue book.
I usually score 550 to 650- on the critical reading part. I don't really have any problems with my strategy, but what happens is that I end up over-thinking and consequently wasting time.
When ever i answer a question, i end up overlooking the right answer and missing the necessary details. When I go back to check my answers, i end up realizing that the answer was right there, but i circled the wrong answer because I missed a few details, or i did not read the correct choice thoroughly.
I feel very dejected, because i cannot bring my score up to where i want it to be, which is 700+.
The same thing happens in the Writing section... I over-think or overlook the right answer.
Could you please give some tips or feedback?
P.S.-- I do know that practice makes perfect. ;)

unfortunately, with the sat, practice (while helpful) doesnt make perfect. if you arent really trained to understand the test itself and how its constructed, practice quickly hits a wall and stops helping.
i recommend 2 things - get a tutor for ap eng because you want to raise your grade and even more importantly, rock that ap test. and get a tutor for sat prep - after some instruction, your ability to improve more on your own will be much greater.

Do your best and don't worry if you score 50 points lower than your desirable score. If you are a high school student and plan to submit SAT scores for your application... the college admissions will consider the SATs, but it won't be the most important factor.
Otherwise... find some SAT practice material and practice more...
Remember, that SAT scores won't be valid after 2-3 years... and if you transfer to a different college, you'll have to take their math placement tests.

It can be been a couple of years for me. In fact, when I took the checks, the crucial studying component was only on the PSATs. However, they were very an identical questions. The AP examination is somewhat extra elaborate. If you happen to did good in AP English, you don't have a drawback.
