Interesting rental legal obligation situation...?
My boyfriend & I signed a lease agreement for an apartment & were approved because my boyfriend had a signed proof-of-income letter from a company he was working for under the table. He had a fall-out with his "employer" & is no longer drawing income from this job & we will potentially be unable to pay our rent. Being that the signed letter from his "employer" was used to get into the apartment in the first place, who is legally responsible for failure to uphold the financial aspect of the lease agreement?

You and your boyfriend are, just like he was not working under the table and lost his job.

I think what you are asking is, should your boyfriends ex employer be held responsible for you rent payment. Of course not! I'm surprised that the LL accepted this letter as proof of income instead of an official pay stub. B/friend needs look find a new job asap or you will be evicted which will effect your life for a long time.
Good luck.

You and your boyfriend are responsible for the rent. Tell him to look harder for another job.
