Which beginner's cookbook should I buy?

My mom never really taught me how to cook, I'm 17 and don't know how to manage a kitchen, but would love to learn. I'm an absolute beginner!

Which is better - Betty Crocker Cooking Basics or How to Boil Water by Food Network

Any other suggestions are welcome!

    I'd go with the How to Boil Water one. Also check out Pinterest.com - it's free and many choices
