Sudden pain and shoulder dropping?

I throw shotput and I'm guessing I threw out my arm at a meet because something slid, there was sudden pain (like im a tough person and I was in tears) then that shoulder was about an inch lower than the other. What can I do for this without a doctor?

Sounds like you subluxed or dislocated your shoulder. A subluxation is a partial dislocation where the ball comes in and out of the socket.

How to treat it at home? You may need to wear a sling. Take ibuprofen for the pain. Also, you could either heat or ice your shoulder. I prefer ice though.

A subluxation occurs when the soft tissues/ligaments stretch or tear. Usually after a subluxation, PT is done to strengthen all of it back up. I'm not saying you've experienced a subluxation, but to me, that's what it sounds like.

If your shoulder doesn't get better or you feel like you should get it checked out, see an orthopedist (bone and joint doctor). They specialize in this specific area and will provide the most/best help. Skip the familiy doctor if you can as they'll probably just xray your shoulder and send you on your way if r comes back fine. Or if they think your shoulder needs further evaluation, they'll refer you to an orthopedist anyway. So, skip that step if you can and see an orthopedist.

The orthopedist will ask what happenend and what symptoms you're experiencing. He then will examine your shoulder and do some "hands-on" tests which just involve moving and bending your arm around in certain ways. Search "shoulder exam" on YouTube and you'll see the different tests they do. The orthopedist will have a good idea of what's wrong, but may send you for an MRI. The MRI will show any damage done to the soft tissues, ligaments, and cartilage.

I know you don't want to see a doctor, but if your shoulder doesn't improve, see an orthopedist.

Again, I could totally be wrong about it being a subluxation (partial dislocation), but that's what it sounds like to me.

    Anyway, good luck!

Well if you have a dislocated shoulder- you can't treat that at home. Need to go to hospital.
