Could there be horseflesh contained in a tin of Corned Beef?

I refer to the corned beef we buy here in the UK also known as Bully beef, and NOT what the Americans call it which is canned Salt Beef or brisket. The corned beef I buy is canned in South America and in view of recent relevations about the inclusion of horse meat in some of our foods I just wondered about corned beef.

If you're eating processed crap there's really no way to tell what's in it and it will continue to be this way. One little horse meat scandal isn't going to change that,

Our "corned beef" usually comes from South America too. Because Brazil raising tons of beef and exports it I bet they send it all over the world in different forms or names on the can.

Depending on if the South America country also butchers horse would determine if there is horse meat in your Bully Beef.

According to my research they do indeed.

This is an interesting link, particularly the paragraphs on production. According to that, many horses are slaughtered for food in UK as well but then exported to other countries as a carcass not a live horse. If you are importing Italian meats, you may be eating some of your own Dartmoore ponies...

I had the same trouble myself and had bought to the stage where I inspiration i'll have a cheese sandwich instead. I stopped protecting the tin under the electric can opener and easing it circular the entire corners until I eventually obtained one finish of the tin off.

Although 95% of corned beef is produced in South America , you couldnt rule it out , it could contain lamas and alpacas for all we know lol.

I have a feeling we're going to find out we've been eating horsemeat for quite a while -- no matter where we live. I'm leaning more toward vegetarianism than I ever have before.
