Was the privatisation of the UK power system a big mistake?

I am Biased, OK but we did make cheaper electricity than the present organisation and our top men did not need the high remuneration of the present ones. When the lights go out ,will we get the CEGB back?

The privatisation of all Britain's national industries was a massive act of theft upon the British people. In effect our silverware was sold for peanuts (eg BP sold for 6 billion and now makes 36 billion a quarter). But the most offensive was privatising water, gas and electricity, no nation should have these resorces controlled by foreign investors.

The generation and distribution of electricity is a natural monopoly. Therefore, competition is not there to give citizens the best price. Therefore, privitization was a mistake.

Yes and no, there are cons and plus to everything.

    PLUS:

    - you stoppd 20 Metric tonnes of waste being sdumped in land-fills each year

    - You helped in stopping the eroding of metals in the plant from happening,

    - toxins getting into water/air supply not wrried about anymore.

    CONS:

    - thousands without work,

    - Less opportunity for expansion of the plant which could've lead to more jobs,

    - Less revenue being generated Into UKs economy.

Source(s): It's as straight forward as this, any time you sacrifice for ecology, you additionally sacrifice for the economy too.

If the government had subsidized it to a greater degree , instead of privatizing it, the price for each kw-hr would have been even less. Perhaps they could have even provided it free.

Anytime you remove government bureaurocracy from an entity it transforms into a more efficient, leaner operating, profitable enterprise able to produce the same product or service at a cheaper price.

Possibly, but the huge mistake was shutting down perfectly good power stations and expecting stupid ideas like wind turbines and solar panels to be able to replace them.

privatization was good move but government should have put some regulatory system for controlling it....
