Firstly, there are different types of music/notes/songs that can bring on different moods in a person.
What kind of music do You generally enjoy [since the assignment specifies that] ? It can be peppy, sad, or any of the various music genres like pop, rock, jazz, .....
You could also think of one particular instance in your life where music played some sort of role.
I'm not sure, but could you include " Nature's music" as in bird songs, waterfall sounds, etc ?
Once you've identified the Kind of music & the Mood it sets in you, you are ready to tackle the artwork :-)
Even without using music notes, there are many ways to imply music through drawing - musical instruments, an LP playing, music discs, stereos, the singers, an orchestra, i-pods, headphones/earplugs, a music band, etc.
Colors also symbolize the mood you want to depict. Soothing, cool colors would mean you feel calm, serene, peaceful ....while reds, & other bright, dark shades could represent stronger emotions & more action.
You have a great advantage in being able to choose any media. eg. you can make a multi- or mixed media artwork/collage where you can glue in pieces of a music CD, the cover of music you like, .... In fact you could consider making your image On an old CD(s) !
Think of Where you generally like to listen to music - in the privacy & comfort of your room, with friends, at a show, ...... And instead of drawing the details of that area, convert it into symbols that depict the Mood & your Feelings [eg. if you are listening to a quiet number on your bed, you could draw clouds instead of the ceiling, or clouds entering the room through a window, little birds flocking around, floating feathers or bubbles, .... . If it makes you feel romantic, draw some things that would depict romance & love, ....]
You could consider making it all a surreal kind of image too. This way, you can incorporate so many many things.
As for images, some of these may inspire an idea or 2 :

Hope these help :-)
Add : Just to clarify & elaborate - eg. if you feel uplifted by music, yoiu could show yourself floating on clouds ; if you feel like dancing, you could show yourself [or symbols] dancing freely & uninhibitedly, ....
