A New Build Gaming PC in the pipeline?

I've almost decided to go ahead, and purchase the various components,

(bearing in mind developments in the next 2-3 years or so)

We have a:

Intel i7 3930 processor

6 (maybe 8) GB DDR3 1600 ram memory

Nividia GTX 660 2gb graphics

2TB Sata 3 HDD (I have an extensive, and I do mean extensive music collection)

Haven't decided on which gaming case to select as yet - have two in mind.

Win 7 Pro OS

Any comments, thoughts, or alternative suggestions on this build would be appreciated.

£12.000 is the planned spend - which includes a few little odds and ends.

I'm a mechanical AND electrical engineer, so NO problems there!!

My thanks in advance to ALL those responding.

Update:

Planned spend is of course £1,200 - NOT £12.000 (typo error)

Update 4:

My thanks for the quick reply.

I use Photoshop CS5.5, Sony Vegas Pro and Autocad 2013 (jobwise) so I do need power.

I'm also demanding and impatient with computers at times.

Update 7:

- Not specifically for gaming

- Also for work-related projects using Autocad

- Image editing etc, etc using Photoshop

- Video editing etc, etc using SV Pro

Will take your advice/opinion and go for the 670.

I'm not too concerned about ram, I can always add some later - if required!!

Many thanks.

Is this PC for gaming only?

The 3930 won't help you nearly as much in gaming as a better GPU. All that extra processor is great for rendering and video editing, but it's mostly unused in games. If you dropped the processor to a 3770K or a 3570K you'd still do just fine and then could bump the GPU up to at 660 Ti or even a 670 or HD 7950.

RAM is cheap, you don't really have any reason not to get 8GB at least.

a million. i ought to extremely, extremely recommend going for a center 2 duo setup. AMD and ATI are taking position. era. you will get a center 2 duo and that Athlon sixty 4 for an similar value, and the middle 2 duo is going to outperform the athlon hands down. it is in simple terms extra value effective to bypass for socket 775. if you're going for lengthy time period mark downs, i ought to recommend an MSI P6N Diamond. it truly is a 680i board, yet you'd be able to improve for years. it is extremely surely worth the funding. 500 series are going to reduce you in words of PCIe help and... stuff, lol reminiscence performance heavily isn't plagued via the emblem, till you're hardcore benchmarking and stuff, yet kind does dictate some element of reliability and performance. G.ability and Patriot are the manufacturers to bypass for. stay faraway from corsair, kingston etc. a number of it is in simple terms own opinion even with the undeniable fact that. i ought to bypass for a 600w ability furnish or more suitable. in simple terms positioned, decrease watts are a waste of money in words of toughness. i purchased an ATI radeon 850XTPE and plugged it right into a 300w a even as decrease back, and it fried the motherboard. a 1000w is costly, yet you'd be able to improve for a lengthy time period when you get it. ability elements usually live longer than the different aspects, for my section. why purchase something which will live longer than something else in simple terms to throw it away in 2 years besides? extremely makes a funky 1000w with modular help. i recommend it.
