What order to play the Legend of Zelda games?
I have been wondering in what order to play the Zelda games.
Either:
1) Play games in order of the official timeline
2) Games of chronological release
3) Or just pick out a few that you think are essential for me to play first before others.

Honestly i would just play em in any order, but make sure to play Twilight Princess, A Link to the Past, Wind Waker, Minish Cap, Ocarina of Time, Majoras Mask, and Skyward Sword.

There is the order they were published and the order they happened:
Published:
The Legend of Zelda
Zelda II: The Adventure of Link
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons and The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages
The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker
The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures
The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass

Chronological order of the games:
This is a difficult question to answer, because many different people have many different theories. Here at Zelda Elements, {they} have come up with this order:
Ocarina of Time
Majora's Mask
The Wind Waker
Phantom Hourglass
A Link to the Past
Oracle of Ages
Oracle of Seasons
Link's Awakening
The Legend of Zelda
The Adventure of Link

There is much speculation as the chronological order of the Zelda games in terms of storyline, so although Ocarina of Time is the fifth game in the series, it is not known when the events that occur in it take place. It is commonly accepted by most that Ocarina of Time actually takes place before any other Zelda game, but this claim is challenged by some.

Hmm.. Majora's Mask is the sequel to Ocarina of Time, so you might understand things better if you play OoT first. Also, Phantom Hourglass for the DS is the sequel to Wind Waker, so the same goes for that.
You don't really have to play the games in any order though, you will get the same awesome Zelda experience either way :D

Which you can play them in any order. However, I endorse you start with the video games on the N64 when you consider that many Zelda fans have began out with them and they're one of the high-quality. You may also want to begin with the 3D Zelda video games due to the fact to me, they may be quite a bit easier, however the 2d video games are highly addictive. Customarily, which you can go any way you want. There's supposedly a timeline, but it surely relatively does not make any sense whatsoever.

I typed out a long explanation and decided to just use your number system instead.
2) Games of Chronological release
Except i'd work my way backwards.
That way you can see what they added and how they tied in other stories from one another.
It'll give you a lot more "Ohh! I see what they did there!" moments this way.

Play ocarina of time dude. Thats the best one and awesome. After that play majoras mask. That one is really hard because you need every mask to finish the game. Dont worry about the actual order of events. Good luck!
