I really don't see a difference between a prayer and a wish.

No. Prayer is a moral, psychological and spiritual booster...it has been shown however, that a positive psychological and emotional outlook can positively affect the immune system, and hasten the body's natural healing process. So, one might say that prayer can actually aid in physical health. It is a kind of placebo effect. The human mind is a very powerful thing...one might even dare to use the word "miraculous"...

Remember Jonah the third chapter? After he ran away got ate by the fish and the fish, vomited out Jo′nah onto the dry land. Well he was sent back. verse 2 of chapter 3 says: 2 “Get up, go to Nin′e·veh the great city, and proclaim to her the proclamation that I am speaking to you.”
Verse 4 says: Finally Jo′nah started to enter into the city the walking distance of one day, and he kept proclaiming and saying: “Only forty days more, and Nin′e·veh will be overthrown.”
Verse 5 says: And the men of Nin′e·veh began to put faith in God.. verse 8 :And let them cover themselves with sackcloth, man and domestic animal; and let them call out to God with strength and come back, each one from his bad way and from the violence that was in their hands. 9 Who is there knowing whether the [true] God may turn back and actually feel regret and turn back from his burning anger, so that we may not perish?”
Verse 10 says: And the [true] God got to see their works, that they had turned back from their bad way; and so the [true] God felt regret over the calamity that he had spoken of causing to them; and he did not cause [it].
So it was not just there prayer that changed Gods mind, it was also there actions.
The power of praying for others is regularly stressed in the Bible, whether by an individual or a collective group. It was in regard to ‘praying for one another’ that James said: “A righteous man’s supplication, when it is at work, has much force.”—James 5:14-20

No. Prayer is hope! Two hands working accomplishes much more than 1,000 clasped in prayer!

God's will doesn't need to be changed, ours does.
