Does a lock stop a thief?
Or do they keep honest men honest?
I was always told that a thief will find a way to steal something ifhe wants it bad enough but an honest man will pass on by a locked door.

Practical advise.
The lock stop the thieves if there are other easier places, so you better use it.

There are many ways for a thief to get into your home or office or where it is and take your stuffs.
1) Smash windows
2) Pick the locks
3) Pretends to be an official service person that came to check your stuffs and steals small items that can be swiped. (Some actual official ones actually have done this before)
4) Bursts through the front door or whichever door you came through while holding a weapon at you at gunpoint as you were leaving and force their way inside
So as you can see there are a few ways that could allow the thief to break in and there's several other ways I have yet to mention as well.
So just having locks doesn't fully prevents thieves.

A lock will NEVER stop someone intent on breaking into your home or business. Even elaborate alarm systems will NOT prevent the loss of your property. NEVER keep valuables in plain view or anywhere but locked away in a hidden place.
