How do I know if my amp is too strong for my subs?

I had a half *** sound system in my last car and I had help picking everything out. I bought a MTX package deal for a dual 12" enclosure, subs and the amp. The amp must have gotten a short because the fuse kept blowing immediately after being replaced. I have had the box upstairs for the past few years and I now plan on putting the subs in my new car, but I don't know the specs. Is there anyway to find out if the new amp i plan on buying will cause problems.

(as you can tell I have very little knowledge when it comes to amps)

Here is the amp I plan on buying

The amp that originally came with the package was a MTX 251d thunder. I found an owners manual online and it has the following specs

RMS Power measured at 12.5 Volts DC:

80 Watts x 1 into a 4 Ohm load with less than 1% Thd+N

160 Watts x 1 into a 2 Ohm load with less than 1% Thd+N

• Dynamic Power measured at 14.4 Volts DC:

125 Watts x 1 into a 4 Ohm load

250 Watts x 1 into a 2 Ohm load

• Signal to Noise Ratio: ≥100dB A-Weighted

• Damping Factor: >100

• Frequency Response: 20Hz-85Hz ± 3dB

• Maximum Input: 8Vrms

• Thunder EQ: Selectable Bass Boost (0, 6, 12dB) centered at

40Hz

• Crossover: 18dB/Octave, 85Hz, Low Pass

• Dimensions: 8" x 9.75" x 2.1" (20.4cm x 24.8cm x 5.3cm

your amp was very small, and ill wager the speakers are like 100 watt as well if it was a package deal.
