Water shooting up drain from P trap?

Changed a gasket in bathroom sink. No leaks, but water is returning up the drain from the P trap and drains in a few seconds. Looked for blockage from sink to Stack but nothing. Where have I gone wrong?

Fro water to be expelled out of your drain from the p-trap, the sewage pipes beyonf the p-trap must be pressurized.

Check for blockages in your vent pipes. Use a power snake with the propper sized fitting (at least 50 feet long) to run down the vent pipes from the roof. This will clear any blockages in the vent as well as blockages in the actual wet sewer pipe.

If you have water backing up, you obviously have a blocked up drain or sewer line. The drain or sewer line needs to be snaked properly. That gasket has nothing to do with it.
