when painting a room a dark color (navy blue) should I use a dark primer, or a light primer undercoat?

    Best to tint the primer in the color your painting. It will help cover the wall paint thats there now better.

    In your case you can also tint it in the grey tones to help your navy blue cover better. Since a lot of darker colors need a second coat to cover well, tinting primer will help a lot. GL

    What is the present color ? If the current paint job is in good shape and you are applying a darker color then you may not need a primer at all, if you use a top of the line quality paint.
