Is it safe to write on a horse with chalk?
I'm going to ask my boyfriend to the Sadie Hawkins dance tomorrow and I want to ask him by writing on his pony. Our trainer thinks its a fantastic idea and is willing to help. I'm just making sure it will be safe to write on him with chalk? It will only be on him for an hour or so.. Also would I need to wet the chalk to make it easier to go on or should it be fine? Thanks!

Should be fine. Just dampen it a little bit and it should be easy to apply and also make it easier to get off the horse.
If you still nervous about it, you can go check out a couple of tack shops and find some horse safe paint. They should carry it in their shop.

I use chalk to lighten dark spots on my horse's socks before a show. As long as it's not too abrasive. Don't do it if your horse has sensitive skin. Also, it friggan sucks to try and get out unless it's warm enough to give your pony a bath afterwards.

Sounds like it would be fine! Maybe make him a little dusty and colorful for a bit. If you're still worried, maybe you can get paint instead? People use that on their horses often. Cute idea btw!

Chalk may be hard to see on the horse, but if you look at all of the "horse anatomy in motion" horses, they paint them. We use just temporary colored hair spray. Certainly doesn't hurt the horse to be on his coat.
