Why do christians pick and choose what rules to go by?

you use these rules to ban gay marriage

http://www.gotquestions.org/gay-marriage.html

but you ignore these rules about mixed race marrages

http://www.openbible.info/topics/mixed_race_marria...

why do you stick to one and not the other.

Update:

Greg J I am curious as to why they condemn one and not the other even though they are both in the bible, and both are very clear to understand

Update 2:

t-crisis so the Christians got it wrong then? Maybe they have got it wrong with gay marriage, so its best to give up the fight and just let gay marriage happen without all this sillyness

Update 3:

Also if you dont follow the old testament why are you against gay marriage. Half the objections about homosexuals are in the old testament.

Because if they followed them all, they'd be immoral monsters.

It's not just Christians many other religions do this as well. Religious writings are subjective to how you understand what you have read. Also times have changed and as the world grows, learns and mixes a lot of the beliefs of the time (not religion related) must change as well to adapt to the world we live in.

It's not picking and choosing. The Old Testament means the old will of God, the New Testament is the new will of God. If something is deemed old and a new and great will is given then the old will becomes obselete. We cannot be bound by the Old Testament laws. Jesus fulfilled them for us.

The only reason God did not let his people interbreed with other races was because the other races worshiped other gods and men can be persuaded away from God by women. Look at Samson and Delilah.

Christianity is greater than Judaism, it is God's new will, the old law was and is for the Jews. When a jew or gentile becomes a Christian they have become a new creation and are now defined by the New Testament of God.

Homosexuality is spoken against in the first chapter of New Testament law as a curse and vainglorious, they esteem themselves above God.

There is no verse in the New Testament because we are all made equal by Christ and Christians cannot persuade Christians away from God by their lusts.

The Spirit of God dwelling in the true believer does guide us in the right path which we are to follow. The gay issue has nothing to do with mixed marriage for one and, on the other hand, it is also wrong to make people marry those of other races or creeds whom they wish not to marry for their own personal convictions.

There has never been a better time to put and end to the heartache of an unfulfilling relationship. You can rebuild the happiness and close connection, thanks to the life-changing techniques at https://tr.im/htIzj

Marriage, like life, is a cycle of ups and downs. It's easy to say your marriage is in good health when the world around you is prospering, but when your fortunes turn and your world is in hardship, how you interact within your marriage can often paint an altogether different picture.

You must be speaking of false Christians. Real Christians go by the rules of God as found in the Bible, all of them, and none are against mixed race marriage.

    See: Matthew 22:39

We only choose to follow what the Bible actually says. Citing a website that equates people with cattle shows just how perverted the rules you want us to follow are. What seems so clear to you is not even in the Bible. What seems clear to me is that you are desperately grasping at straws to build support for your own personal prejudices.

Thank you, but I will continue to follow God's word, not the twisted version you wish to share with us... .

I know what you mean. It's probably not what you are used to hearing. James says, "Faith without works is dead," and that starts a whole attempt to make works (the way Man thinks of it), a part of what a Christian does. So they do what that same James did by inventing a section of the Laws of Moses for Christians to follow. James did this same thing in Acts 15 with certain parts of the Law, and reiterated them in Acts 21. Those 4 parts of the Law of Moses were never sectioned off for this new covenant in Christ by Jesus nor Paul. James made it up as he went, like a lot of pastors do there days. But instead of seeing James as a faulty expositor, they try to reconcile James with Paul and Jesus. They get this works/ self-approved/ amporphous Law system that changes depending on which church you go to.

I reject their "Gospel", because it isn't the Gospel. It was people like that who Paul was warning the Galatian churches about in the Epistle to the Galatians.

    Galatians 1

6 I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you to live in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— 7 which is really no gospel at all.

    etc. etc.

We are guided by the Bible. The Bible says nothing about mixed marriages. The Old and New testaments say homosexuality is a sin.

As you are an unbeliever, when your earthly ship sinks who will save you?

The Christian knows the Jesus lifeboat will be alongside to take him to Heaven where life will be perfect. There is only the one lifeboat but an unbeliever won’t get into it. You will be in the water, but you won’t be alone. You’ll have company – of sorts. Sharks will be there to take him to Davy Jones’ Locker instead. I know which of the two destinations I prefer. Which do you choose? Are you going to obstinately stick with DJL and oblivion, or accept Jesus' offer to save you from drowning? Hurry up and make up your mind. You may not be alive this time tomorrow and then it will be too late.

The reason the Christian cares about things that do not seem to concern him is because he doesn't want unbelievers to drown in their own sin. He wants to help them into the lifeboat - but the choice is theirs.

I guess it's okay since the people that compiled the books of the Bible got to pick and choose what was gospel and what was heresy; the books/words have always been picked based on how convenient it was for those in charge anyways.
