Will the Machines Wake Up?

Can we reverse-engineer the brain, or will machines be able to develop a strong consciousness that’s completely different? Some think we’ll NEVER be able make a mind. There’s something innate in being human that leaves us impossible to replicate.

And if we did make a brain, and they woke up SkyNet-style, should the machines have legal personhood rights? AIs are starting to manage a bunch of stuff anyways, and corporations already are people.

Anyways - I'm voting on Google X Labs for the "most likely to reach the singularity". What do you guys think?

    1. Yes I think they will eventually develop to have a mind. Processing improvements, algorithm improvements. We're a while off but it's certainly possible.

    2. This is confusing. The human mind is incredibly complex and uses a lot of tricks to function so well. I do not believe they will think like people do. They'll be smarter in some ways (logic, math) and less smart in other ways (creative problem solving). Although maybe if the processing power can be strong enough the'll be able to simulate all kinds of scenarios and be more creative too... But even then they would probably "choose" not to be limited to a human-like way of thinking.

    3. I do not think they would have personhood rights, they would just be property. They would only be machines and not truly conscious, no emotions, no need for property, if one's body is destroyed its mind could be uploaded to a new one.
