2001 GMC Sonoma 2.2 (towing capacity)?
Trying to figure out how much i can tow it says 2000 pounds on the bumber hitch, I have a flat bed trailer prolly around 1200 pounds. the only thing im going tow is two dirt bikes. I was thinking of buying a small motorcycle trailer but if he could tow the flat bed that would be great. & the reason im dont wanna put the bikes in the bed of the truck is because its only a single cab & i will have no room for supplies & gear.
-Thanks

Towing a 2000 lb trailer with a 2.2 ??
Hope you aren't going very far away.
Aren't they slow enough already ? and
Where do they come up with 2000 lbs. ?? must have put it there cause they thought it was a 6 cylinder.
It depends on how FAR you're taking these bikes. A few miles OK. A 1000 miles - not OK.
If you're gonna make it a regular thing on weekends, get the small trailer.
If it's only once in a while, you're good.

So many misconceptions about towing. Just because a hitch says 2000 lbs on it means nothing. The maximum tongue weight for the Sonoma, S-10, Isuzu Hombre, Olds Bravada, S-15 Jimmy is 250 lbs. That is not the maximum you can tow. You can tow anything as long as it is balanced and the vehicle can pull the item being towed. You should have no trouble as long as you balance the load. Take a look at the You Tube video of a Toyota towing the space shuttle. I was appalled when I saw it. NASA turning over the publicity stunt to a Jap car maker.
