Mandatory overtime in NY?

The nursing home I work in has started a dot system. When our 28 day schedule came up last week, the LPN'S had 6 days on their work schedule that were dotted. The CNA'S had 3 days dotted. This is considered mandatory overtime. If someone on the next shift calls off work, the person with the dot on that day has to stay over. We want to know if this is legal or not.

That is common procedure in your line of work because the home has to be staffed

Nothing illegal about that as long as you are paid for the OT worked

If you have a union talk it over with them, you do not like the new policy-procedure work someplace else
